New Mexico’s Atomic Sisters Rugby Football Club Advances to the Final Four.

It has been a hard fought season for Albuquerque’s Atomic Sisters Rugby Club. On April 29th the Sisters took a well earned victory over the Las Vegas Women’s team. After a discouraging loss in the prior two matches against the Nevada team, the Atomic Sisters came back hard for a 31-15 win. This victory advanced the Atomic Sisters to the Pacific Super Regional Semi-Finals, which was ironically held in Las Vegas, whose Women’s team was just knocked out of the competition.

New Mexico’s Atomic Sisters, then headed to Las Vegas to go head to head against the Portland Pigs on May 12th for the first day of the Pacific Super Regional Semi-Finals. With only 20 players able to travel to Las Vegas for the Super Regional, The Atomic Sisters defeated the Portland Pigs 53-21 in a long, hard fought battle in nearly 100 degree temperatures. Advancing to the second day of Super Regionals, The Atomic Sisters then went up against the Camp Pendleton Warriors on Saturday May 13th and again came out victorious with a 48-14 win.

Albuquerque’s Atomic Sisters are now heading to the USA Club D2 Women’s Rugby Final Four to be held on June 4th in St. Louis Missouri. The Final Four consists of the Champion from each of the four regions of the United States: Gulf Coast, Pacific, Northern, and Atlantic.

The Atomic Sisters are putting New Mexico and Women’s Sports in the spotlight as they head up against the four best Women’s Rugby teams in the United States.

Founded in 1993, The Atomic Sisters are one of the oldest teams in the Southwest Rugby Football Union. With over 30 active players, we are proving that experience and age are not necessarily a hinderance in women’s sports. The Sisters strive to create an environment that helps support and develop amateur athletes for national sports competitions.
